How to get to Comporta: 1 hour from Lisbon by road or ferry!

Situated on the Atlantic coast, around 1 hour's drive from Lisbon, Comporta is easy to reach. A destination where it is still possible to escape the mass tourism that plagues other regions of Portugal.

By plane: Lisbon airport

To get to Comporta, you'll first need to fly into Lisbon. Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport is Portugal's largest airport. It is located around 6 km outside the city. Several scheduled and low-cost airlines offer flights to Lisbon from a number of French and European cities.

  • A 2.5-hour flight from Paris, a 2.40-hour flight from Brussels and a 2.5-hour flight from Geneva.

By car from Lisbon airport

From Lisbon airport, it takes around 1 hour 15 minutes to drive to Carvalhal-Comporta (120 km). Hiring a car is very easy. All you need is to be over 21 and have at least a one-year driving licence.

  • Take avenue Santos E Castro, then exit IP7 / Eixo Norte Sul

  • IC17 towards Cril / A1-Norte / A12-Sul

  • IP1 and take the "Alcàcer Do Sal" exit, then IC1 "Alcàcer Do Sal Algarve".

  • N253 / R253 then the N261 / R261

  • Arrival in Carvalhal / Comporta

By ferry from Setúbal

The second option is to drive to Setúbal, 50 km south of Lisbon (35 min by car) to catch the ferry with your vehicle, bound for Tróia. The crossing takes around 25 minutes. Ferry timetables vary according to the season, with departures every hour, and even more in summer.

  • Ferry arrival: Cais Sul landing stage, Tróia. Take the N253-1 and N261. Allow 15 minutes' drive to Comporta (20 km).
